Last night, I went on Rachel Maddow to implore Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to vote NO on the GOP spending bill set to be voted on today.

Let me be clear: this bill is a disaster, and this decision is a mistake.

We cannot give Donald Trump and Elon Musk unchecked control over taxpayer money. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I know that Congress, and only Congress, is supposed to control federal spending. This bill hands Trump and Musk the power to bypass that, and continue their reckless and illegal dismantling of our government.

I flipped and now represent a swing district. I know about political risk. But we cannot let fear of being blamed for a short-term shutdown stop us from doing what’s right. And frankly, if a Republican-led government shuts down, that’s on them.

Senate Democrats need to hold the line, and demand a clean, bipartisan short-term bill that we can support to keep the government open.

I’ll keep fighting back – even when it’s tough, and we all know they’ll come after me for it. If you can, call senators across the country NOW and urge them to stop this bill. And if you’re able, please chip in to support my fight to keep this swing seat blue, and help us take back the House.
