That’s why yesterday I proudly shared my plan for expanding and strengthening workers’ rights. I'm proud to be the first candidate in this race to put out a workers' rights platform. When I’m Mayor, I will fight to ensure every New Yorker can have a stable job with family-sustaining wages, paid sick leave, and essential benefits and protections.

As reported by The Nation [[link removed]] , I will build on New York’s long and proud labor tradition by ensuring that all workplaces provide the protections, security, and benefits people need to thrive — including the right to join a union.

My plans include concrete, common-sense policies to expand and strengthen workers’ rights. When I’m Mayor, we will:

* Create a new Mayor’s Office of Workers’ Rights to lead the city in promoting new protections for working New Yorkers
* Fight for New York City to be able to raise its own minimum wage in line with the city’s high cost of living
* Expand New York City’s paid leave law to include an additional five days of paid time off
* Ensure more workers know about their right to organize and how to join a union
* Strengthen workplace protections against sexual harassment, discrimination, and pay inequality
* Protect working New Yorkers against unfair firings and guarantee severance pay when New Yorkers lose their jobs
* Fight the Trump administration’s rollbacks of civil rights, attacks on immigrant New Yorkers, and the dismantling of federal worker protection agencies
* Protect deliveristas, ride hail drivers, and the app-based workers who make New York City run
* Crack down on abusive uses of AI and surveillance in the workplace
* And a lot more!

John, I’ve made workers’ rights a central issue throughout my life. In the City Council, I passed a slate of legislation that established just cause for the fast-food industry, ended erratic scheduling for fast-food and retail workers, guaranteed a living wage for drivers, established protections for independent contractors, and more.

As Comptroller, I created a new Workers’ Rights team within the Office of the Comptroller, which works across the labor and progressive movements to advance new projects and organizing, including the Employer Violations Dashboard and accompanying Employer Wall of Shame [[link removed]] , an Immigrant Workers Resource Guide [[link removed]] , and regular Workers’ Rights Convenings that bring together stakeholders from labor, worker centers, academia, government, and advocacy.

Since the beginning of my term, our Bureau of Labor Law has recovered over $9 million in owed wages and civil penalties for construction, building service, and temporary office workers.

Now, with the Trump administration putting workers and unions under attack, it’s never been more important to have a pro-labor Mayor in City Hall.
