John, we’ve been asking you to contact Congress a lot this week – but it’s really important you make your voice heard today.
Here’s the latest update: last night, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer indicated that he’d vote to advance the Republican spending bill [1] – the same bill that would:
- Endanger Medicaid and Medicare by paving the way for major spending cuts
-
Rubber-stamp Trump’s tariffs as well as any future ones
-
Defund critical public services for residents of Washington, D.C. (who don’t even get a vote on this bill!)
And that’s just what’s in the bill – what’s missing is any guardrails against Elon Musk’s looting of our government. [2]
If you agree that’s wrong, please join us by speaking out one more time today – whether they’re Democrats, Republicans, or Independents >>
John, let’s call this what it is: a total surrender. We need bold leadership from elected officials right now – but Chuck Schumer, and any senator who votes today to co-sign Musk & Trump’s coup, is failing at their duty, plain and simple.
Our new poll found that 61% of voters want guardrails in this spending bill to save our schools, our hospitals, and our Social Security from Elon Musk. [3] That same poll found that 70% of Democratic voters believe Democrats in Congress aren’t doing enough to stop Musk – and that’s before last night’s news!
Every day Congress fails to act carries devastating consequences for people like you and me – one mass firing or one shuttered agency at a time. Just this week, NPR reported the Department of Education's staff has been cut in half – leaving parents, teachers, and students in the cold. [4]
The American people understand what’s at stake. Why don’t our elected leaders? The deadline to pass a spending bill is midnight tonight – and the one on the floor is totally unacceptable.
So, whether you've already called this week, or today will be your first time: please call both of your senators today >>
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
