LULAC MOURNS THE PASSING OF U.S. REPRESENTATIVE LUIS GRIJALVA, A TIRELESS
CHAMPION FOR LATINO COMMUNITIES
=========================================================================

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Enjoyed a Long
History of Working with this Community Leader in the Struggle for Social Justice

Washington, D.C. – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) expresses
its profound sorrow at the passing of U.S. Representative Luis Grijalva, a
lifelong advocate for civil rights, social justice, and the empowerment of Latino
communities nationwide.

"Luis Grijalva was more than a lawmaker—he was a warrior for justice who never
compromised in his commitment to our people," said Roman Palomares, LULAC
National President and Chairman of the Board. "He understood the struggles of
working families because he lived them. His leadership was guided by a deep love
for his community and an unbreakable resolve to make America a place where every
Latino had the chance to thrive."

Representative Grijalva dedicated his life to uplifting the voices of the
oppressed, standing on the front lines of the fight for immigrant rights,
educational access, and economic opportunity for all. As a respected champion in
Congress, he authored and supported policies that expanded protections for Latino
workers, fought against voter suppression, and ensured that underserved
communities had a seat at the table.

"For decades, Luis Grijalva stood as a pillar of strength, courage, and vision,"
added Palomares. "His leadership inspired generations, and his legacy will
continue to shape the fight for equity and justice long after his passing."

In recognition of his integrity and dedication, LULAC honored Representative
Grijalva at a past national convention, celebrating his outstanding contributions
to the Latino community and his relentless pursuit of equality.

Born to immigrant parents, Grijalva rose from humble beginnings to become a
powerful voice in the halls of Congress. His early work as a community organizer
laid the foundation for a lifetime of advocacy, from expanding bilingual
education programs to defending the civil liberties of the most marginalized.
Throughout his tenure, he fought against racial discrimination, pushed for humane
immigration policies, and championed efforts to close economic disparities that
disproportionately affect Latinos.

Concludes Palomares, "As we mourn this profound loss, we honor his example by
recommitting ourselves to the causes he held dear. The struggle for the American
dream, for dignity and equality, is far from over—but thanks to leaders like Luis
Grijalva, we are closer than ever to realizing that dream for all."
