Volunteer week
This week is volunteer week, everyone in Team Oldham wants to say a big thank you to the extraordinary increase in people volunteering right now, and helping Oldham get through this difficult time.

Watch Councillor Arooj Shah talk about the response.

Car parking charges reintroduced but still free for on duty NHS staff
Following the latest government announcement encouraging people back into work Oldham Council is making changes to our town centre car parking charges. At the end of March we temporarily suspended charging to ensure NHS staff had somewhere to park when going about their vital roles.

As our car parks gets busier as more people return to work we will be reintroducing parking charges from Wednesday 3 June.

NHS staff can continue to park for free while they carry out their duties, as long as they display a parking pass issued from their place of work, and park legally and safely.

On street car parking fees will also be reintroduced and enforcement in residential parking zones will also return. Bus lane enforcement will also restart. Parking charges at Dove Stone Reservoir will also be reintroduced.

Enforcement will be carried out where parking is deemed to have put others at risk.

Dove Stone, new parking restrictions
We’ve taken action after motorists continually ignored existing parking restrictions near Dove Stone Reservoir. From Saturday 6 June double yellow lines will be marked along both sides of Holmfirth Road (A635).

Anyone who illegally parks a vehicle on this stretch of road will now face a fine of £70

We used emergency powers to introduce the restrictions after visitors to the site repeatedly caused issues, including blocking the carriageway and footways, and parking over access points. These have increased in recent weeks as more people have visited the site for their daily exercise during the crisis.

The order will cover from the roundabout at the Clarence pub to the borough boundary. It applies to all vehicles including blue badge holders. Some of the side road junctions will also be covered to deal with the effects of displaced parking.

We’ll be monitoring to see if these are needed once the impact of the yellow lines on Holmfirth Road has been established.
Church Road temporary closure
Church Road in Uppermill is temporarily closed while we remove the wooden bridleway bridge which had become structurally unsafe. We are advising people to use alternative routes until the road reopens. We’ll keep you updated when we have more information.
Oldham health and social care team goes extra mile in crisis
A special Oldham health team has been carrying out vital patient care and support during the current crisis. The team including community nurses, health care professionals and social workers have worked directly with care homes, residents and staff who have shown possible virus symptoms. Read more about their work here
