Hi John,
Yesterday, I made the tough decision to suspend my campaign. While our goal of representing District 16 was not in the cards at this time, the work this campaign has done has given me a new understanding of the potential for meaningful change.
It is hard to look at the injustice rending our country right now without a sense of deep sadness. Beset by crisis, the most destructive systems in our society have turned brutal, leaving millions to slip through the cracks, losing jobs, homes, and health.
However, this campaign has given me hope that our communities are more than capable of taking power and providing healthcare, education, food, and shelter to everyone who needs it, undoing our unjust carceral system, and ensuring America is not a force for chaos and pain abroad.
As an educator, I've spent enough time with young people to know what incredible potentials rest in them. The rising generation of Americans have internalized the struggles of climate catastrophe and institutionalized racism, and are beginning to reshape the nature of our politics.
In this campaign, we reached out to ignored communities, to neglected voices, and to the marginalized of Westchester County and the Bronx.
To everyone who has been activated, compelled, or awoken, keep up the fight! To everyone who has supported us in our efforts, thank you so much!
