British American Tobacco (BAT) hired young models to sell its products despite having an explicit policy banning under-25s from appearing in adverts. The cigarette giant paid social media influencers to star in a promotional campaign for glo, a heated tobacco device, in violation of its own marketing rules that state: “No person appearing in our advertising will be under 25.” Glo recruited Bethany Cross, 21, and Amy Valentine, 24, two Instagram celebrities, for its summer ad campaign called #todayiwill.

Hampshire hospitals will be going completely smokefree. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, will be rolling out the initiative at the Andover War Memorial Hospital and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. The move means that from October 1, patients and visitors will not be exposed to smoke on their way into and out of trust's hospitals.
Alex Whitfield, chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals, said “As a major employer and provider of hospital services to people across Hampshire, we have a responsibility to help reduce smoking and, in turn, the serious illnesses related to it. We will be providing lots of additional support to help people stop smoking as part of the programme, so we hope that this initiative will also help to reduce smoking.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a “cluster” of lung illnesses that it believes may be linked to e-cigarette use after such cases were reported in 14 states. The CDC said there was no evidence that an infectious disease was behind the illnesses and that more information was needed to determine whether they were in fact caused by e-cigarette use. The CDC is working with health departments in Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Indiana and Minnesota on the investigation.
