I know the news is moving fast right now, so I thought it would be helpful to recap what’s happened in D.C. this week so far and what I believe we should be most concerned about.
Last week Elon Musk shuttered USAID and this week he’s moved his attention to defunding the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB). This is the agency responsible for protecting Americans from fraud, scams, and rate hikes. Getting rid of the CFPB will absolutely make consumers less safe.
Musk also started his march on the Department of Education, announcing $1B in cuts to programs for our kids. I believe this is just the start of massive cuts to our public education system. This is a place where public outrage is going to be paramount to pushing back.
Public servants and whistleblowers continue to be fired if they speak out about the cuts or how DOGE is mishandling personal data. The legality of these firings is headed to the courts, and I'm optimistic we will have multiple favorable opinions.
There is a lot moving and it's vital we stay focused and organized in our response. One of the ways we’re fighting back is by building a grassroots show of force through petitions.
