As global corporate media continues to largely ignore this crisis, and the USAID funding freeze impacts on the healthcare system, our Ethiopia Earthquake Emergency Appeal is urgently raising funds to support the response to an ongoing series of earthquakes in Ethiopia.

Our teams in the affected regions of Ethiopia are working with government agencies, partner organisations and community members to coordinate emergency support for thousands of families that have lost their homes and livelihoods.

As seismic activity continues to disrupt life and destroy infrastructure across a broad region of the country we present some of the key facts and figures about this crisis:

• This series of earthquakes began on 27th September 2024
• Over 280 earthquakes have been reported since then 
• Earthquakes have hit three regions of Ethiopia - Afar, Amhara and Oromia
• Approximately 100,000 people have been displaced
• Two fatalities and many casualties have been reported
• Thousands of homes, schools, factories, farms and roads have been damaged
• An ongoing cholera outbreak has resulted in thousands of people being infected
