John —

This week, I spoke with Jen Psaki on MSNBC, and she asked me this:

“You said that [Senate Democrats] are going to do whatever it takes to stop Donald Trump. For people watching right now, what does that mean specifically? What does that look like?”

Here’s what I said:

Elections matter. If we had picked up one more Senate seat, for example, or 20,000 votes in Pennsylvania, we could’ve stopped Pete Hegseth from being confirmed.

Winning every congressional seat, every Senate seat — that’s when we really need people to get involved, because we’re seeing the consequences of this past November’s elections right now.

Republicans have tremendous power right now controlling the House, Senate, and White House, but that does not mean we are powerless. Democrats are going to fight in a few ways:

1. In the courts. More than 42 cases have been filed against Donald Trump’s actions, and we’ve won more than a dozen of them already. We’re going to continue fighting Trump’s lawlessness and pursuing justice in the courts.

2. Using our oversight power. House members and Senators have the ability to slow things down and force people to take a deeper look at legislative actions. Kash Patel is a great example. Just by postponing his floor vote, more information has come out, like him receiving thousands of dollars from a Russian-implicated news agency and possibly perjuring himself in his confirmation hearing.

3. Raising awareness. Elected Democrats are exposing what the Trump administration is doing through rallies, online content, our speeches, and more. As a result, millions of people are already hearing about everything Donald Trump and his allies are doing to cause chaos and disruption – and his lack of action to lower costs for Americans.

Why or how do I know this works? During Donald Trump’s first administration, the collective voice of outrage stopped him from pulling down the Affordable Care Act .

I know it works this time, because just a few weeks ago when Donald Trump froze federal funding — which cuts spending on programs that support police officers, firefighters, suicide prevention hotlines, and more — there was so much outrage online that the Trump administration stopped in their tracks, the law kicked in, and we were able to get an injunction against him freezing these critical funds.

All of these tactics work in coordination to be a xxxxxx against what Donald Trump will try to do.

But let me return to where I started. Republicans won multiple elections, and have more authority, but that does not mean we are powerless or that we don’t have agency.

Most importantly, we have a responsibility to speak up, to stand up, to be activists against these illegal actions of the Trump administration.

Thanks for taking a moment to read my response. It’s going to take all of us, working together, to hold Donald Trump accountable and overcome the challenges they throw at us. I’m grateful to have you by my side.

With love and gratitude,

Cory
