** A message from POV’s leadership team
------------------------------------------------------------
It’s only February and so much has happened since the beginning of this year.
Our hearts go out to all the people who have been impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires and the challenges ahead to recover from this devastation. The level of destruction is still being uncovered. We will recover because we are LA Strong.
In the meantime, there is a lot of chaos, confusion, stress, and distress around the activities going on in the US Government and the present administration.
Agencies like Peace Over Violence, including rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, child abuse centers, health services and more – are being threatened. Please pay attention, be mindful, and take appropriate action to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of all people.
We continue to remain committed to our mission and our vision. Our vision is a world without violence. Where no child is abused, no wife battered, no friend raped. A world without terror, without threats, without wounds from intentional actions. Where the strong provide for the vulnerable, where the vulnerable become empowered, where every kind of family is safe and secure, and all people have a fair and equal chance at the pursuit of happiness in a tolerant and talented society.
The values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Multiculturalism are in the DNA of POV and have been from our founding in 1971. Violence doesn't discriminate, although some people and some communities are more vulnerable. And that is where we stand our ground. We will serve everyone who comes to us.
We are POV Strong.

** Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
------------------------------------------------------------
February marks Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time to reflect on a staggering reality: 1 in 12 high school students will face physical dating violence, and 1 in 10 will experience sexual dating violence. Even more concerning, 19% of teens across the country are dealing with some form of abuse, with transgender youth at the highest risk.
At Peace Over Violence, we’re working to change the narrative through education and community. This month, we’re offering free workshops, hosting community events, and creating spaces where teens can learn to recognize and participate in healthy relationships and take a stand against violence. Let’s empower the next generation to break the cycle and promote peace.

------------------------------------------------------------
This Black History Month, Peace Over Violence reaffirms our commitment to creating safe, healing spaces for Black survivors. Our Still I Rise Support Group ([link removed]) offers a dedicated space for connection and empowerment, while our staff and volunteers take special care to address the unique barriers Black survivors face when navigating the aftermath of violence.
The need is urgent—45.1% of Black women and 40.1% of Black men experience intimate partner violence, and Black women in abusive situations are nearly three times more likely to suffer fatally than White women. As we honor Black history, we commit to the ongoing fight for safety and justice.
Let’s continue taking steps forward together. Learn more at peaceoverviolence.org. ([link removed])

Combining history, theory, and memoir, America, Goddam renders visible the gender dynamics of anti-Black violence.

Strong, healthy, and safe relationships are the foundation of a happy and meaningful existence, but they are far from easy to build. They require conscious and intentional thought, patience, hard work, empathy, and so much more, including a little bit of luck.
