Friend — today we learned that my friend and fellow Minnesotan Senator Tina Smith will retire from the Senate at the end of her term.

I hope you can join me in saying a big “Thank You!” to Tina Smith for the tireless work she has put in representing our great state in the Senate.

Senator Smith has been an effective leader on important issues such as justice for Native American communities, tackling housing affordability, and supporting Minnesota’s farmers. She came into elected politics with a strong background as a leader at Planned Parenthood and has never backed down from the fight for women's equality and the right to choose.

She’s a fierce advocate for all Minnesotans — working families, folks struggling to get by, people of all backgrounds — not just the rich and powerful few.

In her announcement, Senator Smith said: “It's not lost on me that our country is in need of strong progressive leadership right now, maybe more than ever,” and I couldn’t agree more.
