LGBTQ+ students depend on the U.S. Department of Education to enforce civil rights laws in schools across the country. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are already at work to gut the Department and undermine federal support for schools and students.

Earlier today, Trump’s pick to lead the Department appeared before a U.S. Senate committee. Linda McMahon - a former wrestling executive - has no meaningful experience in education and it showed. 

In the hearing, she repeatedly admitted that she needed to learn more before she could answer senators’ questions, misrepresented court rulings on transgender students, and expressed support for anti-LGBTQ+ policies that promote exclusion, instead of inclusion, in schools.

Linda McMahon is not qualified to lead the U.S. Department of Education. LGBTQ+ students need a champion who will fight for their future at the helm of the Education Department, not a crony who will work to dismantle protections and possibly even the whole Department.

Tell Congress today that Linda McMahon is unfit to serve in the Cabinet.

Now is the time to send a message to Congress that the federal government cannot abandon its legal responsibility to ensure that every student should be able to learn at schools that are free from violence and discrimination.
