[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
Donald Trump claims that he wants to make the government more efficient and cut federal spending. That’s supposedly why he created DOGE.
But Trump’s actions tell another story.
We just submitted testimony to Congress explaining why Trump would rely on existing watchdogs in the Government Accountability Office and inspector general offices if he was *serious* about making the government more efficient.
We’ll break down President Trump’s actions below, but if you’re ready to take a stand to ensure our government works for the people—and to hold Trump accountable for his actions—please make a donation to support CREW’s work → [[link removed]]If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your tax deductible donation will go through immediately to ActBlue Charities Inc. and be disbursed to CREW within 30 days:

With less than a month in office, Trump has already taken several actions that make our government less efficient.
#1 - Firing ethics watchdogs
Congress created inspectors general after the Watergate scandal to ensure that there would be independent accountability for waste, fraud and abuse in government. But Trump fired over a dozen inspectors general from 17 different federal agencies–without the required 30 day notice to Congress.
Inspectors general are not controversial or political—they simply root out waste, fraud and abuse. So how can Trump justify firing 17 of them, as he claims to pursue government efficiency?
#2 - Federal Funding Freeze
Trump also attempted to unilaterally freeze funding to programs and agencies he doesn’t like—a move that likely violates the Impoundment Control Act.
The ICA gives the president limited authority to temporarily withhold congressionally approved funding. But Trump has invented a nonexistent executive impoundment authority that he claims allows him to unilaterally cut federal spending.
So as Trump and his allies talk about plans to cut the federal budget through actions like shutting down the Department of Education and firing hundreds of thousands of federal workers, Trump is championing plans to overturn the ICA, casting it as an enemy of a more efficient government.
But if he was serious about saving taxpayer dollars, he would follow the law and work with Congress rather than illegally and arbitrarily withholding funds.
#3 - Improper use of the DOJ and FBI
For years now, Trump has said that he wants to use law enforcement agencies like the FBI to go after his political enemies. Trump has already tried to fire the head of the Office of Special Counsel and now, DOJ and FBI staff may face significant pressure from the White House and the attorney general or FBI director to participate in political investigations or drop valid cases.
Not only will that undermine national security and public safety efforts, but it’s also an egregiously inefficient use of government resources.
#4 - Using taxpayer money to golf
The Secret Service has spent more than $1.75 million of taxpayer money at Trump properties, literally paying Donald Trump in order to protect him and his family.
You read that right: the Secret Service has to pay Donald Trump to protect him and his family.
Donald Trump’s actions aren’t making the government more efficient – they’re making it less ethical.
CREW is fighting to hold Trump accountable and make our government more ethical and transparent.
