Dear John, This Pride Month, we are participating in GiveOUT Day to raise funds so that we can continue to build upon our 2020 legislative victories. We also recognize that this is a difficult time for many, and we would be remiss in not addressing this reality. The COVID-19 pandemic has had huge health and economic impacts on the LGBTQ community, especially our Black siblings, on top of the racist violence plaguing our country. We want to name that the LGBTQ community has made the progress it has, largely from the contributions of our siblings of color, specifically Black transgender women. We hope that for every dollar you give to EV, you will also give to the incredible organizations in Virginia that are led by and primarily serve LGBTQ Virginians of color. This year, you helped us gain non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ Virginians, ban conversion therapy for minors, protect transgender students, and so much more! But, you also know that there's still much more to be done so that LGBTQ Virginians can experience not just legal protections, but full, lived equality. The money we raise from GiveOUT Day will allow us to: educate and support Virginians as laws are enacted, host regional town halls to discuss legislative priorities for 2021, and reformat programming like our TIES Pop-Ups and countless other events in the wake of COVID-19.
