Hi John,

Has your local waterway helped you feel closer to your community, nature, or even yourself? Our blue spaces connect, inspire and heal us. We need to show them the love they deserve.

This year, as part of the Climate Coalition’s Show The Love campaign, we’re celebrating some incredible SAS volunteers, reps, and citizen scientists who are leading the charge to protect our wild waters.

Meet them below, and find out how you can join them in turning your love for our blue spaces into action.

Marcus, SAS rep in Cornwall

“The health of our rivers and seas is in a dire state. As an avid sailor, swimmer and surfer I’m shocked that our water companies, regulators and government are still failing to protect our health and wildlife. I became a rep to change that.”

Hannah, Plastic Free Champion

“In my beautiful local chalk streams, I can feel refreshed and heal my body. I am reminded that they have been here for thousands of years, and how important it is to protect them. That’s why my business, Jolly Brown Studio, is Plastic Free Champion and part of Plastic Free Hitchen.”

Fran & George, Million Mile Clean

“We have been running beach cleans in Seaford for the past three years. We love seeing the random things our wonderful volunteers find and seeing litter and marine debris off the beach and safely recycled.”

For the love of data 📢

Only 6 weeks into 2025 and our online tool, Data HQ, is already showing that so far this year...

💩 68,000 sewage spills have been logged, equating to an average of 2,000 spills a day.

😷 95 sickness cases have been recorded by water users, equating to 109 workdays lost.

That's a dire picture of the UK's waterways and public health. But Data HQ exists to expose the truth. Dive on in to learn more about the sewage scandal - and find out how you can be a part of the change.

Legal activism for our blue spaces✊

Our friends at Leigh Day are bringing a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 2,000 local people and businesses who have been negatively impacted by pollution in the River Wye, Wales.

"This will be the biggest nuisance claim for sewage operations against a water company in the UK and has the possibility to set an important precedent."

- Oliver Holland, Partner at Leigh Day

Here at SAS, we work with legal activists and support the vital work they do in holding water companies accountable. Watch this space!
