Dear Friends,

In President Trump’s first term, through three iterations of executive orders, people from several Muslim-majority and African countries were barred from entering the U.S. on most or all types of visas. On the election trail, he vowed not only to reinstate the “Muslim Ban” he imposed as President in 2017, but to expand it. On his first day back in office this January, he previewed a travel ban which could go into effect at any time between now and March 21. In response, the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act was reintroduced in the U.S. Congress last week by Rep. Judy Chu in the House of Representatives and Sen. Chris Coons in the Senate.

Urge your Members of Congress to pass the NO BAN Act!

The NO BAN Act would prevent the Trump Administration from banning Muslims, or any other religious group, from entering the country solely because of their religion, by strengthening the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination based on religion. The bill would also require that any suspension of entry into the United States be narrowly tailored, backed by credible evidence, and subject to appropriate consultation with Congress.

President Trump’s 2017 Muslim Ban kept countless families separated, many of whom have still not been provided relief. While President Biden took an important step in rescinding the ban on the first day he came into office, Congress must act now to ensure that no one is ever again denied entry into this country solely based on their religion.

Thank you for taking this step with NRCAT today to urge your Members of Congress to sign on as a cosponsor and supporter of the NO BAN Act!
