*Governor Kelly Appoints Shawn DeJarnett to **Fill District Court Position in 30th Judicial District*

TOPEKA* – Governor Laura Kelly announced Friday she has appointed Shawn DeJarnett of Mayfield, Kansas, to a judgeship position in the 30th Judicial District.

“Shawn brings a broad range of experience and a strong commitment to this role,” *Governor Laura Kelly said.* “I am confident he will serve the 30th Judicial District with impartiality and respect.”

DeJarnett is a sole practitioner at DeJarnett Law Office, L.L.C., in Wellington, Kansas. He is also a municipal court judge for Belle Plaine and Caldwell, and city attorney for Wellington. He currently serves as a Mayfield City Councilman. DeJarnett is also a member of the Wellington Kiwanis Club, the Kansas Municipal Judges Association, the City Attorney’s Association of Kansas, and serves on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee at Ottawa University.

“I appreciate Governor Kelly’s confidence in me and my ability to assume the responsibilities of this position,” *said Shawn DeJarnett.* “I look forward to continuing to serve the 30th Judicial District in this new role and at a time when the District initiates the first of several problem solving courts."

District Court Judges in the 30th Judicial District are appointed by the governor and selected from nominees chosen by a district nominating commission. Judges in nominating commission districts are subject to retention elections every four years.

The additional nominees selected by the district nominating commission were Samuel Brady Short and Magistrate Scott McPherson.
