Hi friend - It’s Shawn, Eric’s partner.

By now, many of you know Eric’s story – fired for being himself and loving who he does, before finding acceptance in Rockford, and dedicating his career to those being forced to hide who they are.

One story you may not know, from after the election, was when we met with President Biden to thank him for his service to the country.

Joe gave us a warm embrace, and asked that we “keep taking care of each other.”

It’s Eric’s honor, not just to me but especially to women and LGBTQ people whose freedoms and rights are under attack in this country. And at this time, what we need is care and community.

The fact is love shouldn’t be political. And while some actors try to use divisiveness and scapegoating to sink their nails deeper into power, Eric leads with hope and unity, even when it’s not easy or popular. That’s just who he is.

Hate has never been a family value of ours. Love always has.

So today, I'm reminded why we need representatives in Congress who can lead with empathy -- especially when it comes to protecting those under attack, who feel scared and alone right now.

Now is the time to lead with acceptance, tolerance, and love.

I may be biased, but we need more Eric’s in Congress who are dedicated to making our community better for ALL of our neighbors. If you want to help inspire the next generation of leaders, chip in $3 and show everyone that we can lead with compassion and freedoms for everyone.

I want to thank you for the power you have brought to Eric and myself. Your energy is what gives us the courage and the strength to keep going, even in the most challenging times.

Happy Valentine’s Day, friend.
