Here’s the truth, John: Lots of commentators and talking heads said that when Donald Trump or Speaker Johnson suggested conditioning wildfire aid to California, they were just “all talk” with no intention of following through.

The pundits said it would be way too vindictive and violate all kinds of norms to force California to adopt right-wing policies just to receive desperately needed relief for wildfire victims and first responders.

Well… Johnson has just announced that the aid *WILL* have policy conditions at Donald Trump’s direction. Thankfully, last November we flipped three seats in California and expanded our Democratic Delegation. They are fighting tooth-and-nail for us in DC. It really is something, John: To see a state experience a catastrophic natural disaster and think, “What can we get out of this politically?"

But that’s exactly what Donald Trump and Mike Johnson are doing.

Before they give a dime of assistance to our wildfire survivors or first responders they want California to roll back voting rights and clean air protections.
