Do you think social media platforms should be unevenly censoring content?
On Thursday, President Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at protecting freedom of speech on social media. The order came after Twitter began fact-checking the President's tweets in what appears to be targeted censorship. President Trump aims to check the monopolistic grip that very few companies have over the social media industry and to hold these companies accountable for what their users post.
Hours after the order was signed, Twitter further censored the President and restricted users from being able to view his tweet regarding the looting in Minneapolis. Twitter claims the tweet violates their rules against inciting violence and therefore they have the right to hide it. However, Twitter has not been censoring tweets urging the rioting in Minneapolis. President Trump and the White House have fired back by continuing to post the censored tweet and by calling out Twitter for its unfair targeting of the President.
