Dear Friend --
I want to take a moment to thank our police and fire departments for their amazing work in the last 48 hours. Tonight has been calm so far, thanks to your support, the community coming together, and our public safety officials.

We are out in full force tonight and we will do everything possible to keep our community safe. I’m thankful we had no loss of life last night and no critical hospitalizations.

And we only had one major building fire because our crews were able to contain it and put it out quickly. The LBFD also put out over 60 other smaller fires throughout the city. And our police officers demonstrated incredible strength while managing tense and complex situations. They acted heroically.

While I am saddened by yesterday’s horrific destruction of many small businesses, I am grateful to all involved in cleaning up our community this morning. I was in awe of our community spirit and resilience.

To all the businesses who were damaged, you have my commitment the city will work with you to rebuild and come back even stronger.

Our public safety teams have been out in full force again tonight and I want to thank everyone for respecting the curfew.

Please stay safe, take care of each other, and take care of Long Beach.

We are not letting up and we will maintain a safe protected community.

Thank you,

Mayor Robert Garcia
