A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

WESPAC and the Funding and Administration of Anti-Israel Groups

The WESPAC (Westchester People’s Action Coalition) Foundation is a progressive nonprofit organization that, for decades, has engaged in anti-Israel activity by serving as a major node in the funding and administration of anti-Israel, anti-Zionist and pro-BDS groups including ones that are escalating hate on campus.

WESPAC has hosted rhetoric on its website that espouses disturbing and inflammatory ideas about Zionism and Jews, and as a fiscal sponsor, WESPAC uses its tax-exempt status as an NGO to receive and administer donations on behalf of groups such as National Students for Justice in Palestine, which has openly praised the October 7 attack, and Palestinian Youth Movement, whose organizers have venerated the so-called Palestinian “Resistance.”

Content Recommendations from ADL

🎥 VIEW: October 8 is a film about the explosion of antisemitism on college campuses, on social media and in the streets of America in the aftermath of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. It opens in theaters this Friday. We strongly recommend this movie; ADL had an advance screening at Never Is Now last week where we heard from Directory Wendy Sachs, and it was so popular we had to add a second showing.

🎧 LISTEN: Last week at Never Is Now, Dan Senor recorded “Are ANY Colleges Confronting the Madness?,” an episode of his Call Me Back podcast where he talked with two university leaders — Washington University Chancellor Andrew Martin and University of Michigan President Santa Ono, PhD about campus protests and supporting Jewish students. Don’t miss this fascinating conversation as Senor and these school leaders talk about lessons learned and charting a path forward.

MAKING PROGRESS WITH ADL

Sharing Increases Security: ADL and the Secure Community Network (SCN) successfully launched their new Regional Security & Intelligence Briefings Pilot Program with an inaugural event in Denver. This initial gathering, hosted in collaboration with JEWISHcolorado, brought together nearly 50 community leaders for a dynamic discussion focused on antisemitism, threats facing communities and strategies for preparedness. Designed to deliver crucial regionally focused intelligence and actionable security guidance, this new ADL/SCN collaboration provides Jewish institutions nationwide with insights into evolving threats and tailored best practices. Each briefing combines expert analysis of antisemitism, extremism and regional threats with security updates and practical recommendations customized for local communities. What’s News

Fighting Antisemitism on Campus: ADL has been carefully monitoring the state of antisemitism on campus and how schools are responding. As reflected in our just-expanded Campus Antisemitism Report Card, ADL’s goal is to incentivize colleges and universities to create and maintain a safe and welcoming campus and commit to no tolerance for antisemitism. This week, ADL released a revised guide for college and university administrators with best practices when it comes to the steps that schools should take to most effectively support Jewish students — and all students — by countering rising antisemitism and hate. Read More in ADL’s guide for school leaders.

Fighting Antisemitism in Brazil: ADL and the Brazilian Jewish community, represented by the Confederação Israelita do Brasil (CONIB) have launched a new partnership to strengthen efforts against antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and extremist threats in Brazil. The initiative will involve CONIB delegates working with the ADL Center on Extremism to gain expertise in monitoring, incident response and threat assessment. The collaboration will enhance CONIB’s capacity to protect Jewish communities through practical training, digital threat monitoring and information exchanges. The program will foster long-term cooperation to combat rising antisemitism and promote community safety in Brazil. Read more about this (in Portuguese).

Marina Rosenberg meets with leaders in Latin America

Fighting Antisemitism Across Latin America: Ambassador Marina Rosenberg, ADL’s SVP, International Affairs was in Chile for the launch of ALAS — Latin American Alliance against Antisemitism. This initiative aims to be a platform to help legislators in the region cooperate on strengthening regulatory frameworks, promoting education about antisemitism and generating effective prevention strategies. The alliance is spearheaded by ADL with participation of the Latin American Jewish Congress and parliamentarians from Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. While in Santiago, Ambassador Rosenberg met with the Sub Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mayor and Governor of Santiago and the U.S. embassy. Read more about this strong regional collaboration to help Latin American Jewish communities.

Take Action Today

Speak up now with ADL! Urge the White House to Protect Jewish Students. The Department of Education's decision to reduce nearly half of its staff raises urgent concerns about the federal government's ability to protect Jewish students from antisemitism in schools and universities. For Jewish students already feeling unsafe and targeted, the Department’s Office for Civil Rights has been a crucial resource. Join ADL in urging the Administration to make clear how they will protect the civil rights of Jewish students.
