Friend,

Congressional Republicans are about to officially give President Trump and
Elon Musk more power to gut government staffing, funding, and services.
The House just passed a dangerous Continuing Resolution bill by a
razor-thin margin of 217-213, with almost every Republican voting in favor
and Democrats standing firmly against it.(1)

This is not a normal budget resolution.This Continuing Resolution would
increase defense spending by $6 billion, cut $13 billion in nondefense
domestic spending, and give President Trump and Elon Musk's new
"Department of Government Efficiency" unprecedented power to dismantle
major portions of the federal government without congressional
oversight.(2)

This resolution now heads to the Senate for a final that will determine
whether California's working families face devastating cuts to essential
services. A continuing resolution needs 60 votes to pass in the Senate, so
Democrats have the power to negotiate a resolution that protects the
funding and programs we rely on.

Here’s what the resolution means for us:(3)

* Nearly $1 billion in cuts to rent subsidies and homeles services
* $10 billion in funding to ICE to continue detentions
* No additional funding for disaster relief
* Hundreds of millions of cuts to medical research on cancer,
Alzheimer's, diabetes, and many other health conditions
* Executive power to eliminate and redirect investments in Social
Security, climate change and environmental justice, and public
education programs

Californians will be forced to shoulder the burden of these federal cuts,
stretching our state budget thin and potentially forcing cuts to state
programs that protect our communities.

We can’t let MAGA bully the Senate into passing a bill that will hurt us
all just to avoid a shutdown that Trump and Musk are already pushing us
toward.
