In hours Senators will set the tone for the Budget bill where Medicaid is hanging in the balance.

John, on Tuesday evening the House passed a stop-gap funding bill that would result in cuts for programs like food assistance, child care, public health, education, and housing assistance.

Now all eyes are on the Senate, where Senators have just hours to decide whether to agree to cut these programs – cuts that would almost certainly impact domestic and care workers – or ask the House to negotiate further.

This is a critical moment. Will you send an urgent message to your Senators asking them to protect Medicaid and other programs that domestic and care workers rely on?

The House-passed Continuing Resolution bill would cut rent subsidies for low-income and working Americans by more than $700 million, and would not fully fund the Emergency Food Program, among other cuts.

The Continuing Resolution is a short-term stop-gap measure to keep the government open. But the choices made in Congress this week could set the tone for the larger Budget bill negotiations where Medicaid is hanging in the balance.

Because the Continuing Resolution requires 60 Senators to pass, Senators have a critical moment of leverage right now that they won’t have for the larger Budget Bill, which requires only a simple majority.

John – with all eyes on the Senate, we need to make it unequivocally clear to our Senators that we want them to protect Medicaid and other programs that domestic and care workers rely on. Send a message to your Senators now!

Our lawmakers are supposed to make care affordable for the care workers, caregivers, and families that are the center of our economy and society, not working overtime to pad billionaires’ pockets.

We have to speak out before these backroom negotiations become a painful reality that makes life even harder for care workers who care for us and so many of our loved ones.

Thanks for all that you do,

Dignity, Unity, Power

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.

Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
