JOHN:
If Elon Musk is already firing thousands of federal employees illegally, what assurance do we have that he’ll stop if we pass a budget?
If the Trump administration is sending entire independent agencies to the wood chipper, what assurance do we have that they’ll roll it back if we pass a budget?
If the VA is under direct attack — if services to Veterans are already being impacted, if Veterans are already going without resources they depend on, if experienced staff are already being pushed out the door — why would we pass a budget that does not demand the Trump administration fulfill their obligations?
If this alone was the state of negotiations on the federal budget it would be enough to demand the Trump administration to accept that Congress sets priorities and funding. They don’t get to choose what they fund, they don’t get to impound funds, and they certainly don’t get to fire anybody they want.
But it’s worse than that.
The House budget rips even more care away from Veterans by zeroing out the Toxic Exposures Fund starting October 1st. 2 million Veterans have had their claims approved thanks to this Fund. 2 million Veterans are depending on the VA to help them get treatment and care for diseases they contracted as a direct result of their time in service.
It’s worse than a bad deal. It’s a betrayal. We’re urging the Senate to reject the budget the House passed, and we’re asking you to join us.
