A Note From the Desk of Congresswoman Letlow

It is an honor to serve you in Congress and fight for Louisiana's priorities in our nation’s capital. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind with President Trump returning to office, the 119th Congress kicking off, and visiting with Louisianans in both Washington and at home.

President Trump’s first month in office has already brought a tremendous amount of energy back to the presidency. With executive orders aimed at securing the border, expanding energy production, and protecting women’s sports, the new administration is off to a fast start.

In Congress, I’m working to support an America-first agenda that places the interests of Lousianans first. This includes voting to crack down on illegal immigration, increase public safety, and repeal burdensome regulations that hurt our economy and limit personal freedoms.

Additionally, I’ve also already filed multiple pieces of legislation that supports Louisiana agriculture by strengthening support programs for our farmers. You can read more about my legislation below.

Please feel free to always reach out to my office directly when you have questions, comments, or concerns. Our team is always accessible through our website by clicking here. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,

Visiting with Louisianans

Whether I’m in D.C. or at home, my favorite part of my job is visiting with friends and constituents. Listening and gathering feedback from those I serve in Congress provides me with the perspective I need to best serve our communities in the nation’s capital. In January, a Washington Mardi Gras celebration gave me the chance to catch up with countless friendly faces over the course of the week. I have also continued to keep a busy schedule of meeting with constituents while in Louisiana, ensuring that all Louisianans have a voice in the process.

Supporting Our Farmers

Through travels across the Fifth District, I’ve heard directly from farmers about their struggles and the need for a better federal response to natural disasters affecting their operations. That is why I’ve opened the 119th Congress by filing multiple pieces of legislation aimed at ensuring producers and landowners can access disaster relief payments in a more timely manner. My goal is to have these bills included in the upcoming farm bill. You can learn more about all of my work on agriculture issues here and check out media coverage of my pro-agriculture agenda here and here.

Protecting Women’s Sports

I was honored to be invited to the White House for President Trump’s signing of an executive order to prohibit biological males from participating in women’s sports. As a former collegiate track and field athlete, fairness and integrity in athletic competition is very important to me. I was glad to be on hand with so many inspiring young athletes to see this become a reality.

Committee Activity Kicks Off

I have the honor of representing Louisiana’s 5th District on two very important committees, the House Appropriations Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee. As a lifelong educator, education is my passion and I will be working to boost learning opportunities for all of our students. I’m also excited to be returning to the House Appropriations Committee, where I will continue my effective work to bring tax dollars home to Louisiana.

Legislative Update

Check out some of the notable pieces of legislation I’ve voted on!

  • I supported H.R.29, the Laken Riley Act, which helps ensure that illegal immigrants with a criminal record can be detained and deported before committing violence against Americans.
  • I supported H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, to restore fairness and integrity to women’s sports by prohibiting biological males from competing on the same playing field.
  • I supported H.R. 115, the Midnight Rules Relief Act, which empowers Congress to review and reject certain regulations issued by U.S. presidents in their final days in office. This legislation will allow us to more efficiently knock down burdensome red tape handed down by President Biden.
  • I supported H.R. 467, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which ensures that law enforcement has the tools needed to keep dangerous narcotics off of our streets. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18-45, crippling our communities and leaving too many families heartbroken.
