Tires
From Fort Worth to New Orleans, recycled tires were at the Big Game
If you watched the final football game last weekend, you may not know that Fort Worth was a part of the action. All-American Tire Recyclers (AATR) sent crumb rubber — residual pieces of rubber from recycled tire processing — to be used as part of the asphalt padding in the end zones in Caesars Superdome in Louisiana.
All-American Tire Recyclers are a 100% green tire recycling facility, contracted with the City of Fort Worth, to receive scrap tires that City staff collect from illegal dump site abatements, litter cleanup events, residential disposal at City Drop-Off Stations, and special collection events.
*Upcoming scrap tire collection events
*In November 2024, we hosted our first residential Scrap Tire Collection Event, resulting in the collection of 383 residential scrap tires, which AATR recycled.
In case you missed out, the City will be hosting three (3) more Scrap Tire Collection events:
* *Saturday, Feb. 22, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.* East Regional Library, 6301 Bridge St., Fort Worth, 76112
* *Saturday, March 22, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.* Handley Meadowbrook Community Center, 6201 Beaty St., Fort Worth, 76112
* *Saturday, April 12, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.* North Tri-Ethnic Community Center, 2950 Roosevelt Ave., Fort Worth, 76106
You can bring used tires and rims from cars, trucks, passenger vehicles, bicycles, and riding lawn mowers. Commercial vehicles and 18-wheelers will _not_ be accepted.
"These collection events are offered in cooperation with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), through funding from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ)."

Recycling
Time to Rethink Recycling
With so many new residents moving to our city, now is the perfect time for a refresher on how to recycle in Fort Worth. This is also a great reminder for current residents and visitors.
*Quick and Easy Tips for Recycling in Fort Worth*
Recycling is easy with our four (4) basic categories: paper, plastic, metal, and glass.
Things you can recycle from each category:
* *Paper: *Newspaper, mail, cardboard, and food packaging can all be placed in your blue recycling cart. Make sure to break down any cardboard before recycling.
* *Plastic: *Most plastics, like water bottles, milk and juice jugs, and detergent containers, can go in your blue recycling cart. Some plastics, like plastic bags, clamshell containers, and hangers, cannot be accepted for recycling.
* *Metal: *Aluminum beverage cans, pie pans, and food tins/cans, can be placed in your blue recycling cart. Heavy metals, such as scrap metal or household appliances, cannot go in the blue recycling cart. These types of items can be taken to one of the City’s Drop-Off Stations [ [link removed] ]
* *Glass: *Food jars and glass bottles can be placed in your blue recycling cart. However, light bulbs, plexiglass, and ceramics cannot be be recycled.
Remember to always *empty* containers, *clean* off any food or residue, and *dry* items before placing them in the blue recycling cart. This helps prevent contamination of other recyclable materials.
By taking a short moment to learn these basic practices, you can make a huge positive impact on recycling in your community.

Air Quality
Sign Up for Air Quality Alerts
Did you know that you can sign up for free daily air quality alerts? Air quality alerts provide real-time notifications when air quality reaches unhealthy levels, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Staying informed about air quality conditions can help you make smart decisions when planning outdoor activities.
*What kind of alerts will I receive?*
Air quality alerts use data from the Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring system and notifies subscribers when air quality reaches pollution thresholds.
Air quality alerts will typically include:
* Current AQI levels and color code designations [ [link removed] ].
* Primary pollutants of concern.
* Expected timeframe for poor air quality conditions.
* Health recommendations for sensitive groups.
* Recommended precautionary actions for all other groups.
Sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions, would especially benefit from these alerts. When alerts show unhealthy air quality levels (AQI above 100), residents should consider limiting outdoor activities until conditions improve.
Sign up for air quality alerts at the Air North Texas webpage [ [link removed] ].
