Email from Rep Feenstra In this week's roundup: My Death Tax Repeal Act, American energy production, and Iowa agriculture.     Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: My Death Tax Repeal Act, American energy production, and Iowa agriculture. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week! THE DEATH TAX REPEAL ACT IS OFFICIALLY INTRODUCED! Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and I introduced our Death Tax Repeal Act to eliminate the death tax on our family farms and small businesses for good. The death tax is an egregious double tax that unfairly targets American family farms and small businesses and directly threatens long-held farming traditions in rural Iowa and across the country. It is ridiculous that the federal government sends grieving families a massive tax bill when a loved one passes away. By permanently repealing the death tax, my bill will offer financial relief when it’s most needed and ensure that our families, farmers, and small businesses can keep more of their hard-earned money — just as it should be. Inheritance tax hits chopping block as more than 200 Republicans push for repeal Republicans in Congress are pushing for a total repeal of the federal estate tax just as they work to extend President Donald Trump's tax cuts. Read More FARM BILL BREAKDOWN SERIES PART X: FARMERS FIRST ACT For the tenth installment of my Farm Bill Breakdown Series, we’re covering my Farmers First Act, which is part of the Farm Bill. This legislation reauthorizes the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network and expands mental health resources in rural Iowa. PROTECTING IOWANS' WALLETS FROM THE IRS Two of my bills to insulate the IRS from partisan politics and make the IRS more accountable to Iowa taxpayers PASSED the Ways and Means Committee! I'll continue to advocate for Iowa taxpayers, push for lower taxes, and make the IRS more responsive and accountable to the American people. FIGHTING THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC AND SECURING OUR BORDER Like Iowans voted for, I’m working with President Trump to secure our border. I voted for the HALT Fentanyl Act to cut the flow of deadly drugs into our communities and President Trump signed my Sarah’s Law to hold illegal immigrants accountable. Bolstering our border security and keeping fentanyl out of our communities There's no denying that the United States has an opioid crisis. Unregulated, deadly drugs have found their way into our urban centers, our suburbs, and even our rural main streets. Every year, these fatal substances indiscriminately kill hundreds of thousands of Americans regardless of age, race, or creed. Read More WE MUST STOP THE SPREAD OF ANTISEMITISM ON OUR COLLEGE CAMPUSES AND AROUND OUR COUNTRY It is a PRIVILEGE to study at American universities. Students on international visas who incite antisemitic violence and voice support for foreign terrorist organizations have no place in our schools, and should be sent back to their home countries. Additionally, colleges and universities that allow this behavior should have their tax-exempt statuses investigated, and in certain cases, revoked. Antisemitism has no place in this country. We must condemn it and root it out. EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Feenstra Urges Congress to Codify Law for Deporting International Visa Pro-Hamas Students President Trump signed the executive order. Now, Congressman Feenstra wants to make it federal law. Read More AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE HEALTHCARE IS IMPORTANT TO OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES Yesterday, I enjoyed meeting with physicians with Iowa Medical Society, which will celebrate its 175th anniversary this year. We had a productive conversation about the importance of affordable, accessible healthcare in rural Iowa and physician payments through Medicare. FARMERS CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER FOR A FIVE-YEAR FARM BILL! Our farm producers can't be left behind when input costs are high, commodity prices are low, and export markets are restricted. That's why my House Ag Committee colleagues and I are working to pass a five-year Farm Bill that strengthens American agriculture and supports our farmers. ENERGY INDEPENDENCE IS A MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY American energy production strengthens our energy security and independence. That’s why I voted for the Protecting American Energy Production Act. Under President Trump’s leadership, Republicans will prioritize U.S. energy dominance and lower prices at the pump for our families. TRUMP'S TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT IS GOOD FOR THE AMERICAN FAMILIES, THE ECONOMY Under the leadership of Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, my colleagues and I are working to extend and build upon the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. American families, farmers, workers, and small businesses deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money. Iowa agriculture is the backbone of the American economy. In Congress, I’ll keep working to pass the Farm Bill and give our farmers and producers a seat at the table! BIOFUELS SUPPORT AMERICAN ENERGY SECURITY AND INDEPENDENCE Homegrown Iowa biofuels support American energy security and independence. That’s why I helped lead a letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin asking that the EPA support year-round access to E-15 nationwide, establish fair RVOs for biofuels, and protect and strengthen the Renewable Fuel Standard. CHATTING WITH THE IOWA SOYBEAN ASSOCIATION This week, I had the chance to meet with the Iowa Soybean Association to talk about the Farm Bill, homegrown Iowa biofuels, and the need to open new export markets for our farm producers. MY WEEKLY COLUMN: AMERICAN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE IS VITAL TO OUR NATIONAL SECURITY Like the rest of the Trump administration, our new EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, is already off to a roaring start. Last week, he announced the EPA’s newest initiative – “Powering the Great American Comeback.” The five pillars of this plan outline the administration’s intent over the first 100 days to restore American energy dominance, bolster our own domestic production, and reduce our reliance on foreign energy resources.
