Making history as the first Black woman from Western Pennsylvania elected to the state legislature and eventually Congress, Summer used her skills as an organizer and a lawyer to run campaigns that would actually serve the communities that elected her.
In Congress, she’s fought to improve infrastructure and public transportation by funding $143M into the system, funding over $22M to ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, and protect voting rights by co-sponsoring bills like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
Throughout her time organizing and in Congress, she’s been consistent in her passion for giving a voice to her community. Lee knows that true change starts at the community level, which is why she co-founded UNITE, a grassroots group that played a key role in electing Pittsburgh’s first Black mayor, Ed Gainey.
