Friends,

Happy Valentine’s Day! February is flying by, and my team and I are working hard to deliver results for Texas’ Second District. From expanding healthcare access to securing our border, we’re tackling the issues that matter most to you.

I’m also excited to share some great news—White House tours are back! If you’re a constituent of Texas’ Second Congressional District and planning a trip to D.C., my office can help you schedule a tour. There’s about a three-month lead time, so make sure to plan ahead. Visit the Tour Request page on my website for more details and to submit your request!

Sincerely,

My team will hold an IRS Workshop on March 19th, 2025, at our Kingwood District Office (1849 Kingwood Dr., Suite 100, Kingwood, TX 77339) from 9:00 am until 1:00 PM.

Tax Filing Season is Here – What You Need to Know

The IRS has officially opened the 2025 tax filing season and is now accepting 2024 tax returns before the April 15 deadline. Taxpayers in federally declared disaster areas may have additional time to file.

  • Faster Refunds – Most refunds are issued within 21 days if filed electronically. Those eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) may receive refunds by March 3. Track refund status using “Where’s My Refund?” on the IRS’ website or the IRS2Go app.
  • Avoid Scams – Be on alert for tax scams and identity theft. The IRS never initiates contact via text, email, or social media about refunds or payments. Stay informed with the latest consumer alerts identified by the IRS.
  • Wait to File Until You Have All Documents – Ensure all income and tax documents are received before filing to avoid delays or errors.
  • Choose a Trusted Tax Professional – Avoid "ghost"  tax preparers who do not sign returns. Always verify a tax preparer’s credentials.

Medicaid Primary Care Improvement Act

This week, I introduced the Medicaid Primary Care Improvement Act, a bipartisan bill that empowers state Medicaid programs to expand healthcare access through Direct Primary Care (DPC). This model allows Medicaid patients to receive primary care for a flat, monthly fee—improving health outcomes, reducing ER visits, and cutting unnecessary costs.

This bill promotes a healthcare approach that benefits both patients and taxpayers. Allowing states to innovate ensures more people can access direct primary care physicians. With a growing provider shortage, we need every available healthcare resource to strengthen preventative care and improve access for communities across America.

State Border Reimbursement Act of 2025

Image

There’s been a lot of talk about reimbursing Texas for border security costs—and rightfully so. Governor Abbott has stepped up where the Biden Administration has failed, and I commend him for taking action. This is an issue I’ve consistently advocated for, and I want to take a moment to highlight why it matters.

Since 2021, I have championed the State Border Security Reimbursement Act—now H.R. 424, the State Border Reimbursement Act of 2025— because we shouldn’t have to foot the bill for a job the federal government refuses to do. My bill would help return those tax dollars to Texans, easing the financial burden caused by Washington’s failures.

Border security is a top priority for me, and I’ll keep fighting to ensure Texas isn’t left to handle this crisis alone.

"Eliminate the Department of Education? A Conversation with Dr. Beth Akers"

Image

Following this week’s major reforms at USAID, the Trump Administration has signaled that the Department of Education (DoEd) is next on the chopping block. Education expert Dr. Beth Akers joined me to discuss the implications of eliminating DoEd, some much-needed reforms to student loan programs, and the pathway to empowering parents and local communities to revamp K-12 education.

"Trump Talks to Putin, Judges Meddle in the Executive Branch, & Goodbye Pennies"

Image

In this episode, I discuss the latest developments in U.S.–Mexico relations and highlight President Trump’s most important domestic and foreign policy moves. I also analyze the wave of federal court stays against Trump’s executive orders and whether they have any constitutional merit.

I also discuss the battle between Elon Musk and Sam Altman over OpenAI and what it means for America’s future. This episode is a must-listen: It provides all the news and clear analysis you need in under 30 minutes.
