In June 1969, Canada enacted landmark legislation to "decriminalize" homosexuality nationwide. 50 years later, there is a need to explore how this history continues to impact our community. Now on tour across Canada, with Toronto, Charlottetown and Montreal down, Sex, Sin & 69 is making its way to Ottawa for Capital Pride. Sex, Sin & 69 is a ground-breaking 80-minute documentary and complimentary photo exhibit. Together these pieces explore diverse voices from across Canada’s contemporary queer community as they relate to Bill C-150 and shaping LGBTQI2S movements into the future. Canada owns a legacy of state-sponsored discrimination against LGBTQI2S communities. This continues to present as entrenched homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and the suppression of Two-Spirit Indigenous Peoples. This history of state suppression did not cease in 1969, and the LGBTQI2S community continues to fight for respect, equity, and inclusion across Canada.
