With renters now claiming the Renter’s Credit on Form M1 and Schedule M1RENT, look for these changes to Form M1PR for homeowners:

  • Schedule M1PR-AI has been replaced with the expansion of Line 6 on Form M1PR. There is now space to list three different types of non-taxable income.
  • Mobile homeowners should use the worksheet in the instructions to file Form M1PR using both their 2025 property tax statement and 2024 Certificate of Rent paid for lot rent.
  • Schedule 1 on Form M1PR has been replaced with new Schedule M1PR-SR. If your client qualifies for a special refund, you will need to complete this schedule and attach it to Form M1PR.

Will the homestead credit move to Form M1 in the future?

The Legislature would have to change Minnesota tax law to change Form M1PR into an income tax credit.
