Howdy John, it’s Shad Murib.
Last weekend, the Colorado Democratic Party re-elected me as their Chair alongside an incredible team of statewide officers to help redesign and rebuild our Party to reclaim our victories across the state. We are incredibly grateful for this vote of confidence, and we do not take the responsibility of leading our party to victory in the next election lightly.
Chair - Shad Murib
1st Vice Chair - Indira Duggirala
2nd Vice Chair - Scott Mangino
Treasurer - Andy Yaste
Secretary - Josh Trupin
This team is ready to fight for our values and win elections across the ballot.
And, as Colorado Democrats, we have reasons to be proud and optimistic.
In the last election, we saw a 15% increase in voter turnout in key districts thanks to our year-round deep canvassing efforts. Thirty counties in Colorado—including Republican strongholds—moved towards Democrats in 2024, accounting for 10 percent of the entire country’s leftward shift in counties, an incredible accomplishment in the face of a red wave. We maintained majorities in the state legislature, on the CU Board of Regents, and at the State Board of Education and delivered our electoral votes by double digits.
Unfortunately, November’s election also showed us that, for the first time, a majority of Americans believe that Republicans best represent the working class and the poor. We know this isn’t true.
From phone screens to front doors, we have to reimagine how we organize and communicate. We’ve got to compete aggressively in every race, even in ‘red,’ ‘unwinnable’ areas. We’ve got to defy Republicans as they work to dismantle our democracy and the American Dream.
Over the past two years of our leadership, our fundraising was stronger than it’s been in years. We used the money to directly invest in our county parties from Las Animas and Grand to El Paso and Douglas—building long-lasting political infrastructure across the state.
In this next term, we will double down on our efforts to reach rural communities that don’t hear nearly enough from us. We’ve got to end the era of Republican dominance in our local offices by winning school board and city council elections, one seat at a time.
For 2026, we’re already putting in the work we need to maintain our majorities in the state legislature to ensure Colorado remains a xxxxxx against Trump’s horrendous policies.
Winning a Democratic House is imperative— since nearly every Republican, including Gabe Evans, is in lockstep with Trump, we must ensure Democrats retake control of at least one chamber of Congress in 2026 if we’re going to restore a fundamental guardrail against Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
This is a tough time, we know, but this moment in history has chosen us, and we better damn well step up to the challenge. Future generations are counting on us to win. As President Obama says, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
We are the Democratic Party—the party of working people, unions, small businesses, ranchers, farmers, immigrants, students and young people. Together, we can do this.
