John --
Pipeline Fighters scored a big win last week, when South Dakota passed a law that prohibits the use of eminent domain to seize land for CO2 pipelines in the state. [1]
The bill was backed by landowners, community advocates, and a wave of new lawmakers who were elected to the state's legislature based on their opposition to the abuse of eminent domain for private gain. In the wake of the landmark law's passage, Summit Carbon Solutions has filed a motion to "pause" indefinitely its permit application before the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, further calling into question the viability of the risky project.
Meanwhile in Washington, Reps. Reps. Scott Perry (R-Penn.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) last week introduced legislation to repeal the 45Q tax credit for carbon capture, which wastes billions in taxpayer money, endangers public safety, and props up a fundamentally flawed and unreliable technology. [2]

To support the effort from lawmakers, this week a group of more than 50 impacted landowners and community advocates staged a "fly-in," traveling to D.C. to meet with their members of Congress to urge them to eliminate the wasteful 45Q tax credit, which a recent report found count could cost taxpayers over $800 billion, or worse -- $3 trillion by 2050, if the industry's desired changes are enacted. [3]
Take action to support the impacted landowners and community advocates from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana and North Carolina who traveled to D.C. this week to make their voices heard.
