Team, today is the first day of Gun Violence Awareness Month.

Normally, this is a time when we mourn gun violence in our communities, lift up the voices of those who have been impacted by it, and call on our lawmakers to enact common sense gun violence prevention legislation.

But, as our nation continues to mourn the loss of George Floyd, we must also recognize that so much police violence IS gun violence — and we need lawmakers who have the courage to act on both.

That's why I launched People First Future. To elect bold, progressive leaders from city hall to the halls of Congress who aren't afraid to fight for change. Will you join me in supporting them?

As I said during my campaign, people of color are far too often the subject of police violence and brutality. Nearly one thousand Americans are shot and killed by police each year — a disproportionate amount of them being Black women and men.

We know there are steps we can take right now to save lives, which is why I put forward my own plans on gun violence and police reform. But it isn't enough for us to offer solutions — we also need to elect candidates who have the courage to act on those solutions.

Candidates like Lucy McBath in Georgia, who lost her son to gun violence but channeled her grief into action. These are the leaders we need fighting for us.

So I hope you'll join me in pitching in $25 (or whatever you can) to elect these leaders. They're counting on your support so they can make meaningful change on issues like gun violence and police violence → [link removed]

Together, we can elect leaders with a people-first agenda who will tackle the tough issues. Now, more than ever, we need lawmakers with the courage and ideas to get things done. I'm counting on you to help them win.

Thank you,

Julián
