**Strong Storm Today Through Tomorrow* *

A strong storm [ [link removed] ] is expected to bring periods of moderate to heavy rain today through tomorrow morning. *Flood watch is in effect from 6 p.m. today to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13. The highest threat during the flood watch is expected from 6 p.m. today to 6 a.m. on Thursday.* Rainfall is expected to range from 1 to 2 inches along the coast and in valley areas and 2 to 4 inches in the foothills and mountains. Rainfall rates are anticipated to reach, and may exceed, .75 inches per hour. *Test Results Indicate Dark Sediment is Not Hazardous Waste*

Results from sediment samples [ [link removed] ] taken after the January rain show that dark sediment on beaches near burn scar areas *do not* contain chemical levels that would classify it as hazardous waste. Samples were taken by LA County Public Works in early February on beach areas near outlets at the Santa Monica Channel and Topanga Creek, and results have been posted to Public Health’s Post-Fire Assessment Plan [ [link removed] ] webpage. For the full results, click here [ [link removed] ].

*FEMA Hiring Local Residents *

FEMA’s local hire program provides an economic stimulus and job opportunities to communities where jobs have been lost due to a disaster. Local hires are needed in a wide variety of positions with appointments for an initial 120 days, which may be shorter or longer as mission needs require.
