Last night was a big step forward for Iowa Democrats. We didn’t flip HD-100, but it was a victory nonetheless. Let me explain why:
Nannette Griffin proved Democrats are on their way back. In a district where Trump won by 27 points, Nannette received 48% of the vote in comparison to her opponent’s 52%. This is huge.
Nannette and all of the Democrat volunteers who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and connected with voters made this very red district competitive. That’s no small feat.
Our Democratic coalition is expanding. We flipped two seats at the beginning of this year, and we had a 24 point swing towards Democrats last night, despite only having three weeks to campaign. Iowans are showing signs that they’re ready for change — we just have to make sure they turn out at the voting booth when it’s time.
