“Two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.”

That’s what State Rep. Tom Oliverson wants to charge transgender Texans with if they don’t go back in the closet.

Last Wednesday, he introduced HB 3817¹, which would make it a felony for transgender people to affirm to the government or their employer that their gender is different from their sex assigned at birth.

Defending democracy means standing up for our transgender community when Republicans preach hate.

And we do this by swarming town halls, registering new voters, and recruiting Democrats up and down the ballot to kick bigots like Oliverson out of office.

When we organize, we can win the country we deserve. But the sad truth is that no Democrat ran against Oliverson² in his first election in 2016.
