President Trump nominated Dr. Mehmet Oz — the notorious talk show host and
former Republican U.S. Senate candidate — to lead the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services (CMS).

If confirmed, it is highly likely that he would attempt to further
privatize and dismantle Medicare and Medicaid.

Finance Committee, our partners at Physicians for a National Health Plan
are holding a “shadow hearing” for Dr. Oz this Friday, March 14th at 9 am

One hour before the official hearing starts, the “shadow hearing” will
give health justice organizations the chance to provide live commentary
and to share stories of how corporations like UnitedHealthcare cannot be
trusted to administer Medicare benefits. Physicians, health professionals,
and patients — including NYSNA/NNU President Nancy Hagans, RN — will shine
a light on the Trump administration’s plans to hand Medicare over to
corporate insurers.

Dr. Oz has been a longtime cheerleader for (and investor in) so-called
Medicare Advantage plans, which are run by for-profit insurers, frequently
delay or deny care for seniors, and have a history of overcharging CMS,
costing taxpayers billions of dollars in overpayments.
