INCOME & WORK SUPPORTS UPDATE
JUNE 2020

Subsidized Employment Must Be a Part of the Recovery

Unemployment has spiked to over 14 percent for March 2020, with most observers predicting a historic high of 20 percent. Without targeted job creation in communities hardest hit, today's crisis will have a lasting negative impact on workers of color and others.

IWS Updates

It's been a challenging month, with racist killings dominating the headlines, the death toll from COVID-19 climbing past 100,000 in the U.S. and rates of hunger among children spiking far beyond the levels seen in the Great Recession. CLASP staff continue to work from home, and we're all spending long hours on video conferences, as we know many of you are. We're advocating for more and faster federal relief to meet the urgent needs of communities, including those left out of the previous rounds of economic support. We're also working with our state and local partners to share best practices to ensure people can actually access available benefits, even though both human services agencies and nonprofits are closed for in-person visits. While we're grounded from travel, we'd still love to hear what you're seeing in your communities and how we can help. Email us at [email protected]
