House Republicans just passed their latest stopgap funding bill, John – and it doesn’t look good.
This funding patch will slash billions from energy and environmental programs, wiping out funding for clean water infrastructure, disaster resilience, and renewable energy research. But it doesn’t stop there. It will also give the Trump administration unchecked power to cut even more climate and sustainability programs at the EPA, DOE, NOAA, and USDA.
Let’s be clear: this is a power grab that takes the guardrails off how taxpayer dollars are spent. Instead of investing in a clean, sustainable future, Republicans are putting our communities at risk and handing control to an administration that has no interest in fighting the climate crisis.
The consequences of the cuts would be devastating. Critical clean water projects, flood prevention efforts, and wildfire mitigation programs are all on the chopping block. FEMA’s disaster relief fund could be restricted by late spring, leaving communities vulnerable in the face of worsening climate disasters.
We can’t afford to let this happen. We’re fighting back in Congress, working to protect these essential climate and sustainability programs. But if we want to safeguard federal investments that protect public health, create clean energy jobs, and combat climate change, we need all the support we can get.
We must act now to protect our air, water, and planet.
Thank you,
