Maura has been taking action on issue after issue to make Massachusetts a more affordable place to live. Lately, she’s been taking aim at bringing down costs for something that we all use — energy.

This week she announced her new Energy Affordability Agenda, lowering energy costs for consumers by $220 million and saving $5.8 billion for electric and gas customers over the coming years.

She’s starting immediately. Following recent Department of Public Utilities’ (DPU) action to lower gas bills by $95 million, the Healey-Driscoll Administration will deliver an additional $125 million in savings to residential customers in April through a $50 credit on your electricity bills.

Some energy suppliers are overcharging customers and violating consumer protection laws, so the Healey-Driscoll Administration said that the DPU is examining new regulations to protect consumers. They believe regulations could save Massachusetts ratepayers $335 million.

And she’s not done. Maura also announced that in the next several weeks her administration will file an energy affordability and independence bill in order to lower costs as much as possible going forward.

It’s not the first time that Maura has taken action to stand up for consumers, and it definitely won’t be the last. We look forward to her upcoming legislation to lower costs even more.
