John —
If you take a look at the webpage for the African American Civil Rights Network under the National Park Service website, you’ll see this message:

The African American Civil Rights Network is a critical and valuable resource for this country to remember and keep an accurate record of the struggle for civil rights and equal protection under the law for all of us. But because neither Trump nor the Republican-held Congress has taken action to reauthorize this resource, it’s left dormant until further notice.
This is just one example of the decades-long battle being waged against the work we’ve done to reconcile our nation’s history and the steps we’ve made to heal our nation’s ugliest wound: the vestiges of the institution of slavery and the Jim Crow era.
Now, Trump and his allies are actively sowing chaos and confusion to erase our histories and the lived experiences that come with the intersection of our identities.
I’m committed, John, to protecting and uplifting Black history, a history that is intertwined deeply with the fabric of this country — even as the Trump Administration works to sweep it under the rug.
That’s why I’m advocating for legislation like the African American History Act in the Senate, to strengthen the teachings of the richness and complexity of Black history in the United States. Will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor right now? [[link removed]]

The weight of this Black History Month is especially present, John, and I’m especially thinking of the leaders who came before me who stood up, spoke out, and took action against injustice. I was honored to serve with the late Congressman John Lewis, who organized the Deep South in the face of violent oppression to ensure that everyone had the right to vote.

Voting rights organizers were met with the blows of billy clubs from state troopers, had dogs set on them, were doused with high-pressure water hoses, and sometimes even sacrificed their lives to protect the rights of Black Americans in the South.
The scars of this period of our nation run deep and can be seen in the income, housing, and education disparities that we see today.
If we let the Trump Administration erase this history, we are doomed to repeat it, John. That is why we must increase our national capacity for Black history education.
We could use the support of folks in Philadelphia, John. Will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the African American History Act right now? [[link removed]]
