Earlier this week, House Republicans introduced a new budget plan. And I don’t say this lightly: Throughout all my time in Congress, I have never seen a more extreme, more harmful proposal than this.

The House GOP’s new budget plan calls for cutting $880 billion from Medicaid. It calls for cutting $220 billion from nutrition assistance, including SNAP benefits. And it calls for cutting $330 billion in public school funding.

Let’s be clear: Reducing SNAP benefits would force American children to go hungry. Slashing Medicaid would rip away affordable health care from millions of families while driving up costs for everyone else. And gutting funding for public education would cause immeasurable harm to children across Kansas, especially low-income students.

I haven’t even reached the truly enraging part yet. In that very same budget, National Republicans are calling for a $4.5 trillion tax cut for big corporations and the ultra-wealthy.

That means this budget would cause irreparable harm to working-class families across Kansas and add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It’s a lose-lose situation — unless you’re a billionaire like Elon Musk.

I want you to know that I will use every tool at my disposal to fight back against this outrageous plan. In the coming weeks, I will not stay silent as House Republicans try to make life easier for a handful of billionaires while leaving working-class families high and dry.
