Hi John,

I hope you all enjoyed the snow and have been staying warm! With this winter weather, I’ve been thinking a lot about my energy bills — and I’m sure you have too.

In the last 5 months since moving to Portland, I have noticed a drastic increase in my energy bill. PGE’s rates are significantly higher than the energy bills I had in Eugene with EWEB. I’m someone who’s careful about my energy use, but with this winter storm weather, I’ve had to turn my heat up. My rental apartment still has outdated baseboard heaters, as do many other homes, which makes for super inefficient heating. It’s weather like this and outdated inefficient systems, like baseboard heaters, that drive up energy prices a lot.

That is just my story, but I know thousands of Oregonians like myself are struggling with rising utility and energy bills. I’d like to hear from you; what’s your story? Use this form to tell us yours and urge our lawmakers to help Oregonians save money and improve our climate resiliency [[link removed]].

Dear John,

Has your monthly energy bill gone up in recent years? John, utility rate hikes in Oregon have gone too far. We need your voice this legislative session to ensure lawmakers invest in energy efficiency and affordability.

In the 2025 legislative session, lawmakers have two choices:
1. Make long overdue investments in programs to help keep energy costs down and upgrade housing to be more weather resilient, or 2. Slash the already scarce funding for existing programs. We must ensure Oregon continues to build on our progress toward a clean energy future that protects our families and communities from extreme weather and climate disasters - and protects ratepayers from higher costs.

Have you made energy upgrades to your home, or are you planning to? Do you need help finding resources to navigate increasingly extreme hot and cold weather? Have you been impacted by rate hikes? Lawmakers need to hear your story. Take our brief survey [[link removed]] to get connected with opportunities to push the State of Oregon to address our utility rate and energy efficiency crisis.
