The Lincoln Project

Friend,

Remember when Trump said he was best for the middle class?

Boy, was that a load of bull.

Pretty much the only thing he’s done in office is institute these tariffs he’s always talking about. And guess what? They’re screwing everybody.

It doesn’t take a genius to understand that starting a trade war with our ALLIES will make things more expensive for the consumer. As we’ve said from the beginning, the consumer pays these taxes, not the country. We’re thinking Trump still doesn’t understand that.

So, what’s a president’s logical next move when they realize something they’ve done is making life harder for the American people? Just reverse it and make things go back to normal, right?

Not in Trump’s eyes. Earlier this week, his orangeness announced that he will double down on the tariffs and that prices will get EVEN HIGHER “for a short period.”

The benefit to all of this? Nobody knows. Our allies now hate us and eggs are more expensive than ever. The art of the deal strikes again.

He lied to us. Straight up. His entire campaign was based around lowering your grocery bill and he’s doing the exact opposite. He’s watching Americans suffer and is champing at the bit to make them suffer more.

What he’s trying to pass off as good moves are seriously devastating ones. The media is still calling all of this Trump’s “tariffs,” but we’ll be the first to call them consumer tax hikes. Because that’s what they are. Donald Trump is messing with every last family in this country, and he needs to be held accountable. Help us make sure he pays for this >>
