We are not powerless, and we will not stand idly by. We’re asking affected workers to share their story today.

Hi John,

Federal workers are the heart of our government, ensuring that critical services like Social Security and Veterans Affairs benefits run smoothly. And with 85% of federal workers living outside the Washington, D.C., metro area, they’re also our friends, family members, and neighbors all across the country.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has put thousands of good, hardworking federal workers out of a job this week—jeopardizing the programs we all depend on.

The most powerful thing you can do right now is to put a face to the DOGE’s reckless cuts. If you are a worker, or the friend or family member of a worker affected by the DOGE, we want to hear more about who you are, how you’ve helped our country, and how the DOGE is impacting you.

You can share your story anonymously or connect with us to help get your story out for everyone to hear. Get started now: go.aflcio.org/worker-story.

Unions will fight for working people every step of the way, with every tool in our toolbox. But you have power, too. Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with the hardworking Americans who make our country run.

In Solidarity,

Team AFL-CIO

Hi Friend,

These last two weeks have felt like months with how much is happening and changing in our country.

And that’s the point: to keep us tired, anxious, fearful, hopeless and divided so we won’t stand up, speak out and fight back.

But many of the executive orders, policies and memos announced by the Trump administration over the past two weeks—some of which were illegal or unconstitutional and many straight from the pages of Project 2025—can and will have wide-ranging, life-changing consequences for working people and families. The labor movement has always been the voice of working people, and we need to hear from you.

We’re collecting stories from working people across the country who are affected by these policies (or attempted policies)—and your story matters.

For example:

  • If you’re a career government worker whose job may be on the line because of Schedule F reclassification, we want to hear about the work you do every day to keep our essential services running.
  • If you depend on Medicaid, Head Start, rent or home heating assistance, or one of the many other programs whose funding was in jeopardy this week, we want to hear your story.
  • If the funding for your local infrastructure or manufacturing project is on the line and good union jobs in your town are in jeopardy, we want to hear about how this will impact your community.
  • If immigration agents conduct a raid at your workplace, school, hospital or church, we want to know about it.
  • If your organizing campaign is affected by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) being effectively shut down, we want to hear more.

You can share your story anonymously, or we can connect with you to help get your story out for everyone to hear from you. Get started now: go.aflcio.org/worker-story

Back in 2017, President Trump’s allies in Congress should have had the votes to overturn the Affordable Care Act and rip health care away from millions of people. But when working people everywhere spoke out, the idea became so toxic that they couldn’t get it across the finish line.

That’s what happened last week, too: The public backlash against the announced federal funding freeze helped rescind that policy, at least temporarily.

When we stand together, anything is possible—and even in these challenging times, solidarity works. But your story is an important piece in this.

The labor movement has your back. We hope to hear from you.
