Firefighters run toward danger when others run away, putting their lives on the line to protect our families and communities. This week, Andrew was proud to host the Nassau/Suffolk Fire Districts Legislative Committee and the Firefighters Association of the State of New York as they advocated for the resources and support our fire departments need. He also thanks Speaker Mike Johnson for taking the time to meet with these New York heroes. Andrew will always stand with our firefighters and first responders to ensure they have the tools necessary to keep our communities safe. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Students Send Heartfelt Valentines to Local Veterans On Friday, Andrew coordinated the delivery of over 300 personalized Valentine’s Day cards from students at Connetquot School District, Sayville School District, Bayport-Blue Point School District, and St. John the Baptist to the Long Island State Veterans Home. These heartfelt messages of gratitude and appreciation helped brighten the day for our local veterans. It’s wonderful to see the community come together to honor and support those who served. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping a Local Military Family Andrew’s office was recently contacted by a Deer Park resident facing foreclosure and searching for assistance to keep her home. Her situation is especially difficult as her son, an active-duty U.S. Marine, is currently deployed and may return home to find their family residence lost. Andrew’s casework team identified her New York State Senator and helped her secure the appropriate contacts for guidance and assistance. Andrew remains committed to supporting military families and ensuring they receive the help they need. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Leads Effort To Aid New York Fire Departments This week, Andrew led a bipartisan coalition of New York Members of Congress in urging Governor Kathy Hochul to establish a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service for the Firefighter Property Program (FFP). This agreement would allow New York’s fire departments to acquire excess Department of Defense (DoD) equipment, helping reduce costs and enhance emergency response capabilities. While many states already participate in this program, New York has yet to establish eligibility—leaving fire departments without access to critical resources. Andrew is pushing for change to ensure first responders have the tools they need to protect our communities. Read the full letter here. Andrew Meets with Long Island State Veterans Home This week, Andrew met with representatives from the Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH) in Washington, D.C., to discuss legislative priorities impacting our nation’s heroes. LISVH provides skilled nursing care, adult day health care, and short-term rehabilitation services to the 85,000 veterans who reside on Long Island. Ensuring our veterans receive the care and support they deserve remains a top priority, and Andrew is committed to advancing policies that strengthen resources for facilities like LISVH. Andrew Questions Fed Chair About Policies Impacting Small Businesses Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, driving job creation and economic growth. Ensuring that U.S. monetary policy supports their success is critical to maintaining a strong and stable economy. This week, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testified before the House Financial Services Committee, where Andrew questioned him on how the Fed’s policies impact small businesses and economic growth. Watch Powell’s testimony here. Andrew Meets with Leading Cancer Hospital This week, Andrew met with Dr. Selwyn M. Vickers of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals. Andrew has long championed investments in medical research and innovation, recognizing their critical role in developing new treatments and cures for illnesses that impact countless families. He remains committed to ensuring continued access to essential funding to drive medical progress and improve patient outcomes. Examining the PRC’s Threat to U.S. Ports and Supply Chains This week, Andrew participated in his first Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security hearing, “Examining the PRC’s Strategic Port Investments in the Western Hemisphere and the Implications for Homeland Security, Part I.” Ports are prime targets for the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and the risks of cyberattacks, espionage, and sabotage impacting U.S. supply chains cannot be underestimated. This discussion is critical to understanding and countering the PRC’s influence over global trade and infrastructure. Watch more. Thanks for reading!
