Friend — I hope you can give me just a minute of your time this Sunday morning.
I started The Long Run with one goal in mind: To help elect promising candidates from diverse, working class backgrounds. The kind of candidates who don’t usually get political and financial support when they decide to run for office and make a difference in their communities.
And listen, I’ve run my fair share of campaigns. I know how these things work. Once you announce that you want to run, the first question everyone asks is “can you raise enough money to win?”
It’s sad that money is so important in our political system, but it’s the game we have to play. And so many candidates who don’t fit the status quo — candidates who are Black, Brown, working class, LGBTQ+, disabled — struggle to get their campaigns off the ground simply because they don’t have the resources they need to be successful.
Or in other words, they don’t have a bunch of rich friends they can call up and ask for donations.
So, it’s February 2025. I know for many people the next election seems like this far-off thing in the future.
But if we want to see more working class leaders in Congress and more progressive fighters who will stand up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk, we have to start investing right now, when it matters most.
